Challenges Faced by City of Brookfield
The City of Brookfield recognized that incorporating a more efficient commercial air handling unit within the wastewater facility would lower costs for taxpayers. However, wastewater treatment plants are challenging environments as effluent gasses are corrosive to metal. Sometimes, these gasses can even be explosive. Ventilation equipment must have protective coatings to minimize the effects of these gasses and extend its lifespan. The Gunn & Pegelow team had the perfect solution.
Gunn & Pegelow’s Commercial HVAC Solution
After considering all variables, the Gunn & Pegelow team decided to implement a Titan Air custom commercial air handling unit, consisting of three Strobic Air TriStack fans. This equipment was designed to deliver on the challenges of these gasses and minimize the explosive risk in the wastewater treatment plant.
Our Process
The Gunn & Pegelow team worked with Titan Air to choose a herisite-coated aluminum heat recovery cell and integrate it into the air handling unit. This provided corrosive-resistant properties necessitated by the challenging environment.
The inherent custom design of the unit with the integral recovery cell allows the energy from the exhausted air stream to be recovered and captured, saving on operational costs over the lifecycle of the unit. Additionally, it allows for zero cross-contamination of the supply air stream and the exhaust air stream.
Positioning the Titain Air unit proved to be a potential hazard to maintenance personnel, and required special tie-off points to secure the unit. Working with the city, the Gunn & Pegelow team was able to create a solution that will serve the wastewater treatment plant for years to come.
